Best baby strollers under Rs 6,000 in India: what you get and what to watch

You do not need to spend a lot on a stroller, and many good-value ones sit under Rs 6,000. The trade-off is simple: they are usually light and basic, with smaller wheels and a thinner frame. They work best for short outings on mostly smooth ground. Before you choose, read our guide to what to check in any stroller.

What you can expect at this price

  • A basic folding frame, usually steel or a lighter alloy
  • A multi-position recline, with a few that go close to flat (check this for a newborn)
  • A five-point harness, canopy and a small basket
  • Less suspension, and plastic wheels that feel every bump

Models that often show up in this range

These models regularly appear in Indian buyer's guides and listings at roughly this level. We have not tested them, and this is not a ranking.

  • LuvLap Galaxy: often listed at roughly Rs 4,300 to Rs 5,700. A popular starter choice. One guide says it states EN 1888 compliance, and it is on the heavier side for this price, so check the listing.
  • LuvLap Elite: seen at around Rs 6,000 in one listing, right at the top of this band.
  • Mee Mee and similar brands: several light models appear in the Rs 3,500 to Rs 6,000 range on Amazon.in.

Watch for these at the low end

  • Low weight limits. Some basic models are only rated up to about 15 kg, and we saw one popular model quoted as low as 8 kg in one review and 15 kg in another. A toddler can outgrow a low limit in a year.
  • Recline that is not flat. If the seat only leans back a little, wait until your baby can sit with support, or use a carrier meanwhile.
  • Flimsy brakes and a narrow base. Test them in the shop, push down hard and try tipping it.
  • Safety marks. If the listing does not name a safety standard, ask the seller.

Who it suits

A budget stroller suits you if you live in a flat with a lift or ground-floor entry, mostly use it in a society compound, malls or smooth paths, and want something light to lift into a car. If your area has broken footpaths, step up to the next band.

Our take

Spend what is comfortable, and do not let anyone tell you that a cheaper stroller is unsafe in itself. Do check that the harness, brakes and frame are solid, and plan to replace it in a year or two if you need something sturdier. Keep the receipt and warranty.

Next: strollers from Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000.
