At 23 weeks pregnant you are in the second trimester, with about 17 weeks to go until a 40-week due date. Weeks are counted from the first day of your last period, so this is roughly month 6 of pregnancy.
How big is your baby at 23 weeks?
Around week 23, your baby is often compared to a grapefruit. Fruit and vegetable comparisons are a friendly way to picture the size, not an exact measurement.
From the INTERGROWTH-21st international standard (University of Oxford), the median estimated fetal weight at 23 weeks is about 590 g. Most healthy babies fall between roughly 510 g and 700 g (about the 2nd to 98th percentile). Scan estimates carry some margin of error, so a number on its own is rarely a reason to worry. Our guide on reading the weight on your scan report explains more, and the baby weight checker lets you enter your own report.
The second trimester covers weeks 14 to 27. Many people find it the more comfortable stretch, and baby movements are often first noticed around this time.
Your body at 23 weeks
Mild swelling in feet and hands is common. You may feel occasional practice tightenings, called Braxton Hicks.
What is going on
Your body holds more fluid in pregnancy, and the growing womb slows blood return from the legs, so feet and ankles can swell, especially in the evening.
What can help
Put your feet up, avoid standing for long and wear comfortable footwear.
