20 weeks pregnant: baby size, body changes and what to expect

At 20 weeks pregnant you are in the second trimester, with about 20 weeks to go until a 40-week due date. Weeks are counted from the first day of your last period, so this is roughly month 5 of pregnancy.

How big is your baby at 20 weeks?

Around week 20, your baby is often compared to a banana. Fruit and vegetable comparisons are a friendly way to picture the size, not an exact measurement.

The second trimester covers weeks 14 to 27. Many people find it the more comfortable stretch, and baby movements are often first noticed around this time.

Your body at 20 weeks

Halfway. Baby movements are usually clear by now. The anomaly scan is often done around this time.

What is going on

Halfway point. Your womb reaches around your belly button. Many people feel regular kicks by now, and the detailed anomaly scan is often done between 18 and 22 weeks.

What can help

Book the anomaly scan if you have not, and start noting a rough pattern of your baby's movements.
