19 weeks pregnant: baby size, body changes and what to expect

At 19 weeks pregnant you are in the second trimester, with about 21 weeks to go until a 40-week due date. Weeks are counted from the first day of your last period, so this is roughly month 5 of pregnancy.

How big is your baby at 19 weeks?

Around week 19, your baby is often compared to a mango. Fruit and vegetable comparisons are a friendly way to picture the size, not an exact measurement.

The second trimester covers weeks 14 to 27. Many people find it the more comfortable stretch, and baby movements are often first noticed around this time.

Your body at 19 weeks

Stretching pains on the sides of your belly are common. Skin may darken in patches, such as a line down the belly.

What is going on

Your skin stretches and hormones make some areas darker. Many develop a dark line down the belly, called linea nigra, and patches on the face. They usually fade after delivery.

What can help

Use sunscreen, as sun can deepen the patches. A moisturiser can ease tight, itchy skin.
