18 weeks pregnant: baby size, body changes and what to expect

At 18 weeks pregnant you are in the second trimester, with about 22 weeks to go until a 40-week due date. Weeks are counted from the first day of your last period, so this is roughly month 5 of pregnancy.

How big is your baby at 18 weeks?

Around week 18, your baby is often compared to a capsicum. Fruit and vegetable comparisons are a friendly way to picture the size, not an exact measurement.

The second trimester covers weeks 14 to 27. Many people find it the more comfortable stretch, and baby movements are often first noticed around this time.

Your body at 18 weeks

You may feel more movement. Dizziness can come from lower blood pressure, so get up slowly.

What is going on

Blood pressure is often at its lowest in the second trimester, which can make you light-headed. The baby's movements may feel like taps, rolls or bubbles.

What can help

Keep snacks and water handy. If you feel faint, sit or lie down on your left side.
