6 weeks pregnant: baby size, body changes and what to expect

At 6 weeks pregnant you are in the first trimester, with about 34 weeks to go until a 40-week due date. Weeks are counted from the first day of your last period, so this is roughly month 2 of pregnancy.

How big is your baby at 6 weeks?

Around week 6, your baby is often compared to a lentil. Fruit and vegetable comparisons are a friendly way to picture the size, not an exact measurement.

The first trimester runs to the end of week 13. It is when the baby's main organs and body systems start to form, and many people feel tired, queasy or both.

Your body at 6 weeks

Morning sickness can begin, and smells may bother you more. Mood swings and fatigue are common.

What is going on

Rising hCG and oestrogen are linked to nausea, and your sense of smell becomes sharper. Your breasts are changing as milk glands begin to develop.

What can help

Dry snacks such as a biscuit before getting out of bed, cold foods with less smell, and ginger may ease nausea.
