8 weeks pregnant: baby size, body changes and what to expect

At 8 weeks pregnant you are in the first trimester, with about 32 weeks to go until a 40-week due date. Weeks are counted from the first day of your last period, so this is roughly month 2 of pregnancy.

How big is your baby at 8 weeks?

Around week 8, your baby is often compared to a kidney bean. Fruit and vegetable comparisons are a friendly way to picture the size, not an exact measurement.

The first trimester runs to the end of week 13. It is when the baby's main organs and body systems start to form, and many people feel tired, queasy or both.

Your body at 8 weeks

Tiredness and nausea are often at their peak. Constipation, headaches and a heavier-feeling chest are common.

What is going on

Hormone levels are climbing quickly. Slower digestion causes constipation and heartburn, and blood flow changes can bring headaches.

What can help

Fibre, fluids and gentle walks help digestion. Rest when you can, because early pregnancy fatigue is real.
