9 weeks pregnant: baby size, body changes and what to expect

At 9 weeks pregnant you are in the first trimester, with about 31 weeks to go until a 40-week due date. Weeks are counted from the first day of your last period, so this is roughly month 3 of pregnancy.

How big is your baby at 9 weeks?

Around week 9, your baby is often compared to a grape. Fruit and vegetable comparisons are a friendly way to picture the size, not an exact measurement.

The first trimester runs to the end of week 13. It is when the baby's main organs and body systems start to form, and many people feel tired, queasy or both.

Your body at 9 weeks

Your clothes may feel tighter around the waist. Dizziness when you stand up fast and a metallic taste can show up.

What is going on

Your blood volume is rising, and blood pressure often dips slightly, which can make you dizzy when you stand up fast. The waist feels tight as the womb and gut shift.

What can help

Stand up slowly, avoid long gaps between meals and wear loose clothing.
